Flypa'11!

Los Realejos Town Council’s Tourism Department has decided to cancel the holding of the 6th edition of the Los Realejos International Paragliding Festival, Flypa ’10, due to the closing to public use of El Socorro Beach, after being affected by rock slides due to heavy rains on the area.
Isábel Pérez, Tourism Councillor, has announced that “this decission has been taken because the reinforcement works and the environmental improvement of the slopes that surround the beach access and the swimming area will not be finished, under any circumstance, before the scheduled event dates”. Moreover, she informed that “despite all the efforts made, it has been impossible to find another place in the municipality with simmilar conditions for landing and audience gathering to the ones that El Socorro Beach offers.”
This yearly event was due between April 29th and May 3rd . Nevertheless, as the beach is the nerve centre and official landing site of the Festival, the cancellation has been taken having in mind the necessity of preserving the physical integrity of the crowds that come to Flypa every year.
The organization regrets not to have been able to communicate this decission earlier, but lots of effort were done until the very last moment to find an alternative solution, that did not show up at the end.
The experience gained after all these years will be the basis for us to make a complete quality programme for the 6th edition of Flypa, which will be held between April 29th and May 3rd 2011, and that, among other surprises, will also take us to the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.>
We look forward to seeing all our Flypa friends next year.
